Route 66

The following photo is the ubiquitous PHOTO PROMPT. Study it. There are many roads you can take. Tell us where it leads in a hundred words or less.

I couldn’t have imagined a more romantic setting, for our honeymoon, than the Grand Canyon with its breathtaking views.

In spite of the cold winter winds and the ominous clouds which followed us, we threw the top back on the rented, 1991 white Mustang, and drove the historic Route 66.

The vast open range, Havasupai Indian Reservation, with its free ranging cows, and the hills of Sedona left me speechless with delight.

The caverns took us back in time, Hopi House gave us a piece of pottery history, and our companion clouds a Canyon blizzard.

Intense Emotion Prompt

It’s a new year and time to stoke the fires of writing. Here’s an old prompt I came across while doing some housekeeping, and I thought I’d share it. My apologies to the original source, i don’t remember. Enjoy and I do look forward to reading your responses.

A character experiences a moment of intense emotion, either positive or negative. Without going into detail about how the character experiences this moment on an emotional or spiritual level, describe how the event affects your character physically (sweaty palms, tumultuous tummy, percussive hiccoughs). Through this physical response, show your reader the deeper, inner journey of your character.

Here’s mine: Lost Hope

Despair rolled over her like a slow-moving wave, pulling her under. She clutched at her chest as pressure mounted and a kaleidoscope of images tore through her mind. Tears, hot on her face, rolled down as her lips prayed for a morsel of hope. Finding none, she fell to her knees, releasing her pain in screams.

Thanks to you, this blog was viewed about 930 times in 2014. San Francisco cable cars hold 60 people. If it were a cable car, it would take about 16 trips to carry that many people. 44 countries were among my visitors! Thanks readers!

Here are the top five posts with the most visits: I hope you will continue to visit and join all the other Cow Pasture fence jumpers. Here’s to an even bigger and better 2015!

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Grateful and Guilty.”

Whether it’s a trashy TV show, extra-pulpy fiction, or nutrient-free candy, write a thank-you note to your guiltiest guilty pleasure

Dearest Comedian,

I wanted to thank you for the laughs. In the midst of the craziness of my life and our country, you make my days lighter. For a short time, I am able to listen (via headphones because not everyone likes your language) and escape the madness.

Sometimes I laugh out loud ( get funny looks when I’m out), but I don’t care. For those few minutes or hours, I get to listen to you talk about things most won’t say out loud and paint a picture that moves me to laughter, and tears of unbridled glee.

Although I do on occasion let a particular word or two, maybe three (who’s counting) slip; it is so much easier to let you do the talking. I realize my behavior may be considered inappropriate, unchristian, listening to trash  or even sinful by some. I say even God has a sense of humor and for anyone who says otherwise, well… let them walk around constipated with a prune face. For me, I’ll stay tuned with a laugh at the ready.

Your most grateful,
