We’ve read a lot this week about book reviews and the impact they have on the authors. But, what about all the stories we read? It’s worth remembering, all writers need feedback on their work, regardless of the number of words. With that in mind, here are this week’s Stories to Share.

First up, Spider Webs, by Eugenie Montague.

Second, Reading Their Only Son, by Rick Trushel.

And, last but not least, and Dollhead, by Vanessa Mártir.

Accepting submissions of fiction up to 1000 words, Smokelong has an excellent article this month on what they do and do not want to see in submissions. So, check out the guidelines, carefully.

Seeking fictional stories up to 8,000 words, you can find Submission guidelines for Menda City Review, here.

Fiction Southeast is looking for short fiction of 1500 words or less and offers two annual contests. Submissions are accepted for The Ernest Hemingway Flash Fiction Prize from June the 1st – December 1st. First Prize includes $200.00 and publication. In addition, the annual Fiction Southeast Editors’ Prize opens in December with a deadline of July 1st. Winner $100.00 and publication. You can find their general guidelines here.

I may not have gotten much writing done this month, but I’ve had plenty of time to read. There are so many wonderful books and stories available, it’s difficult to choose, but here are three I’d like to pass on.

Hot Springs by David Guterson – Narrative Magazine, story of the week.

This Week’s Stories to Share

Welcome to another segment of, Stories to Share. As writers, we all want to send our stories out into the universe. But, in world filled with writers, sometimes it seems our own work gets lost in the ever-growing sea of words. However, I believe each writer deserves their moment in the sun.

Stories to Share, is my way of shining the spotlight on writers and their work. I hope you’ll enjoy today’s list and encourage you to pay it forward. You’ll find more stories in the magazines and websites, in which, they are featured. Check them out.

First up, Episode 20 at No Extra Words Podcast, The Legend. Two stories make up this episode, “Achilles,” by Charles Rammelkamp, and “What We Talk About When we Talk About Homer,” by Marina Frances Mularz ( a particular favorite). I encourage you to check out the No Extra Words Podcast, meet the producer and editor, Kris Baker Dersch, and submit your own work for consideration. And, I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you my story, Life in Repetition, is scheduled for episode 35, in February. I’ll keep you updated.
Duck Man, by Mary Ellen Lives ( a dear friend) is one of my favorite writers. Published in numerous literary magazines, I hope you’ll visit her website to check out the list of her published works. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy her exclusive short story.
