10 Reasons To Be Thankful

images-6It’s hard to believe the holidays are here. One minute I was enjoying the summer breeze and the next watching the leaves color the horizon.

From the end of September until after the New Year, time flies. I can remember my mother saying the same thing. Maybe it’s an aging thing – I don’t know.

I might not like it, but one thing the passage of time does is make you realize the significance of the little things. This Thanksgiving I wanted to share with you the things of which I am grateful.

10 Reasons I’m Thankful:

  1. Time might be fleeting, but it also heals.
  2. God’s gift to me – my children (both adults). I may not have done everything right but as a mom, but they are my joy.
  3. My grandchildren, their love, laughter, and innocence.
  4. For the steady hand of my husband, through the good and bad times.
  5. I’m grateful for my own strong will and spirit – it has gotten me through many a dark time.
  6. I’m thankful for our country, the liberties, prosperities, and security it affords us.
  7. For my mind (what’s left of it) and the ability to share my words with the world.
  8. The capacity to adapt to my physical limitations – soon to discover just how well I do.
  9. This blog – which without so many things would have been left undiscovered.
  10. You – my friends, readers, colleagues, the CPC Contributors, and kindred spirits.

It’s amazing when you actively think with gratitude how many things come to mind. Try it – the act of writing it down or saying the words aloud will move you.

It’s hard to believe, Thanksgiving, one of the most favored holidays of the year, is five days away. Unfortunately, like everything else, the holiday has changed and overshadowed by Black Friday or as I prefer to call it – madness.

Thanksgiving used to be a time for giving thanks, enjoying good food, and spending time with family and friends. Now, it’s become a time to eat and run. Personally, I long for the good old days, and I don’t think I’m alone. Just this week a saw a commercial from (Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Home Goods) and given the last few years, it’s not what you would expect.  Check out, Bring Back the Holidays, it will warm your heart.

The holidays don’t have to be a prelude to madness. With the internet, we can simplify things and shop from home – online. To make it even easier, for those of you who have a writer on your list, I have a few gift suggestions.

Happy Independence Day!

Two hundred forty years ago on July the 4th 1776, thirteen colonies declared their independence from England, which lead to the formation of the United States. On that day, the Declaration of Independence was adopted. You can download your copy here. I encourage everyone to read it.

On this Independence Day, we find ourselves in a dangerous and divided country.  Faced with one of the most contentious presidential elections in my lifetime, and terrorists who are out to destroy our country, we are in trouble. But, we the people have choices.

Understand this election is not about your side or mine. It’s not about gender, glass ceilings, or dynasty politics. It’s not about an outspoken businessman. This election is about us, our future, our children and  grandchildren’s future. It’s about the security of our nation both physically and economically.

Unknown-18So, while you celebrate our country’s independence with barbecue, and fireworks, realize we are at a crossroads.

Our choices are limited this year but think, carefully, my friend – the spin is in and whichever lot you cast will determine the future and direction of our country. Independence is not free.

Let’s Never Forget : Freedom Isn’t Free

During this unusual and contentious political season, let us pause this holiday weekend and give thanks for those men and women (past and present) who have sacrificed and made it possible for us to enjoy the very freedoms we so often take for granted.
