Friendship of a Lifetime

On September 28, 2009, I lost my best friend of 37 years. It was sudden and unexpected. I had spoken to her on the phone only an hour and half prior to her untimely death. We were planning to leave for a week-long vacation to the beach the next week.

We met in nursing school in 1972. We saw each other through marriages, divorces, and delivered each others children, We were there for each other through the good, bad and ugly. We were supposed to grow old together.

The posts in this section is how I coped with her loss. They are not grammatically correct, nor did I focus on style, but I hope you hear my heart speaking non the less. For these posts come from the heart of a friend and not the keyboard of the writer’s inner editor and critic.

It’s the friends you can call up at 4 a.m. that matter. ………………………………. Marlene Dietrich
